In one study, researchers found a correlation between high A1C and self-efficacy. Specifically, the researchers found that higher self-efficacy was associated with greater self-care. Furthermore, people with well-controlled diabetes were more likely to have a higher self-efficacy level when it came to selecting appropriate foods when they are hungry and exercising at least 15 to 30 minutes four to five days a week. These findings may provide a target for targeted self-management interventions.

Self-care activities

Self-care activities are important to diabetes management. However, not all patients implement self-care activities. For example, some participants may not have knowledge about the importance of foot care. A recent study examined how self-care activities could be improved. The study included 202 people with type 2 diabetes in Guangzhou, China.

Self-care activities for diabetes control involve monitoring blood glucose levels and responding to symptoms of the disease.
